In February, Hiroshima Prefecture became the first location in Japan to export oysters to the EU market, and to celebrate the occasion, a special gastronomy event was held at a French restaurant in Tokyo on March 10. Featuring Hiroshima oysters and sake, the event was hosted by the prefecture’s governor, Hidehiko Yuzaki, and attended by officials from the French Embassy and the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan.

In 2020, Hiroshima Prefecture signed an agreement with associations of wine producers in the French regions of Burgundy and Jura to collaborate on expanding sales channels in Japan for wine made in those regions, and channels in France for selling Hiroshima-made sake. The event featured both Japanese sake and Burgundy wine, along with dishes made using oysters and other ingredients from Hiroshima.

A culinary celebration connecting Hiroshima Prefecture and France was held at the French restaurant Edition Koji Shimomura in the Roppongi area of Tokyo.
